A Simple Guide to Purchasing Firearms Online

At Sheltr Tactical, we want to make buying a firearm online as straightforward and stress-free as possible. This guide will walk you through the process so you know exactly what to expect when you’re ready to invest in your next firearm.

No matter where you live in the U.S., federal law requires that all firearms be shipped to a licensed Federal Firearms License (FFL) dealer near you. Before placing your order, please be sure to review and follow all state and local laws.

You must be at least 21 years old to purchase a handgun, stockless shotgun, complete AR/AK receiver, or stripped lower receiver. You must also be a legal resident of the state where the transfer will occur (with exceptions for active-duty military personnel).

⚠️ Important: Straw purchasing is illegal. Sheltr Tactical does not condone or support this practice. A straw purchase is when someone buys a firearm on behalf of another person.

Step 1: Arrange the Transfer with an FFL Dealer

• Contact a local FFL dealer and let them know you’d like to have a firearm transferred from Sheltr Tactical.

• Provide them with our contact details so they can send us a copy of their FFL license.

• Ask about their transfer fee (this usually covers the background check and Form 4473 processing).

• Use your FFL dealer’s address as the shipping address when placing your order.

Step 2: Choose Your Firearm & Place the Order

• Create an account or log in to your Sheltr Tactical profile.

• Add the firearm(s) you’d like to your cart.

• At checkout, select your FFL dealer as the shipping destination.

• Review your order and submit.

If you don’t see your preferred dealer listed, select “CANNOT LOCATE MY FFL DEALER” and contact us directly with their information after placing your order.

Step 3: Pick Up Your Firearm & Complete the Transfer

• Track your order with the information we provide.

• Once your firearm arrives at your chosen FFL dealer, contact them to schedule a convenient pickup time.

• At pickup, you’ll complete Form 4473 and pass the required NICS background check—the same process used for in-store purchases.

• After approval, your firearm is ready to go home with you!
